AP FRENCH/ 5H (560190) Length: YearAvailable for: 10 - 12 Prerequisite: French 4 or teacher signature. Students will study the fine points of French grammar in preparation for the A.P. exam in the spring. They will be exposed to French literature from various countries around the world. Student will also listen to recordings of francophone speakers from various countries. Discussion and conversation will be in French in order to refine oral skills. Students will record stories and answer oral questions. They will also write persuasive essays in preparation for the exam.
FRENCHBRIDGE COURSE (709120)Length: YearAvailable for: 10 - 12 Prerequisite: Pass the AP French Exam with a score of 3 or higher This is a university course which will be co-taught with a university professor. Students taking this course will receive three university credits at a rate of $5 per credit upon completion of the course with a C or better. The description for this course is: The themes of coming of age, rite of passage, education can be found in all cultural artifacts and literatures in the French and Francophone world. Students will compare those themes with their own culture, French and Francophone cultures. This will be explored through the prism of the fine arts, history, music, texts, film, and other areas. Students will be exposed to a variety of approaches such as project-based instruction, class discussion, and reaction papers.

This course is designed specifically for students that have been in the dual immersion program or have demonstrated language skills that meet state proficiency targets. It continues the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through advanced writing and speaking tasks and the use of authentic reading and listening texts. Narratives and dialogues are used to teach structure and vocabulary. Culture and history of Spanish-speaking countries are taught through authentic reading selections. The end-of-year proficiency targets are Intermediate High (Reading, Writing and Speaking) and Advanced Low (Listening). Students have the option to take the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam at the end of the year.
